Wonsmos, Dorothy Arlene

Dorothy Arlene Wonsmos, daughter of Christian and Charlotte (Polsdofer) Wonsmos, was born October 7, 1925 in Thornton, Iowa. She attended two rural schools for the first 8 years of her education and graduated from Thornton High School in Thornton, Iowa in 1943. Dorothy received her higher education and graduated from Waldorf College, Forest City, Iowa in 1945; St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota in 1947; and George Peabody College, Nashville, Tennessee in 1956 with majors in English and library science and minors in history and choral music. She taught the above subjects and directed plays in high schools in Sutherland and Jewell, Iowa, Harlowton, Montana, and Mountain Lake, Minnesota. After receiving her M.A. degree in library science, she was employed in Reference and Circulation Departments at Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio, high school librarian at Richfield, Minnesota, and 32 years' service in Acquisition Reference, Special Collections and Head of Interlibrary Loan at The University of New Mexico, Albuq, NM.

Dorothy has been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Albuquerque, NM since June, 1963, sang in the Senior Choir 30 some years and was active in Lutheran Church Women in circles and Bible studies. She has especially enjoyed all types of music and extensive traveling in addition to all the family members and friends who were part of her life.

Many family members and friends have preceded her in death, but many cousins, their families, and friends survive.

A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 2:00 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, NM.
