Harmon, Douglas Stuart

1932 â€" 2017

Douglas Harmon passed away peacefully on February 19, 2017 in Reno, Nevada, after a long illness. He was born in Willimantic near Windham, CT, to Grace

(Pendleton) and William Robertson Harmon at the family home called Oak Knoll. The youngest of five children, Doug was a free spirit - bright, adventurous, and determined to explore life's myriad possibilities. That exploration led him across the country to New Mexico, California and Nevada. He served in the U.S. Air Force and later on staff at the Department of the Interior. He was also active in community service as part of the 20/30 Club in Santa Fe.

Gentle, generous and kind, Doug loved people and all animals, and was much loved in return by family, friends, and pets. He was an avid fan of the San Francisco Giants, driving down to San Francisco whenever possible to enjoy a game with his sister Betty-Lou. Doug and his wife Mary often volunteered during Reno-Tahoe Hot August Nights, the largest classic/nostalgic car show in the world. Doug was also a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks since 1958.

Survivors include Mary, his wife of 45 years, sisters Betty-Lou Harmon and Priscilla Harmon White, five of his six children: Crystel Dee Harmon, Betty Lou Harmon, Mark Harmon, Michael Lee Harmon, Douglas Stuart Harmon II, numerous grandchildren, nephews and nieces, stepdaughter Sharon Rodarte, stepson John Richard Blanche and stepgrandson Aaron Ware.

He was predeceased by his brother, William Robertson Harmon, Jr., by his sister, Dorothy Pendleton Harmon Bell, and by his son Robert Jay Harmon.
