Ed Martinez, 73, passed away on August 2 in Las Cruces, NM. He was born to Herman and Pauline Martinez in Raton, NM on August 11, 1942. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Albuquerque. He worked at Sandia National Laboratories for 31 years, working his way up from the mail room to supervising the electroplating and surface finishing shop, as a Senior Member of the Technical Staff.



He is survived by his wife of almost 20 years, Vicki Edwards, formerly of Horseheads, NY. He was father to Mark (wife Carol), Monica (husband Robin Davis), and Megan Roensch, who also survive him. He was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren: Mitchell Martinez, Bowen, Stone, Sabrina, and Felice Davis. He is also survived by Diana Cimino, the mother of his children. He is predeceased by his father, and survived by his mother. His siblings also survive him: sister Rose and brothers Mike and Fred.



Ed loved hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He also took up golf, after retiring and moving to Horseheads, and he enjoyed playing with his friends at the Corning Country Club. He also enjoyed doing projects and could figure out how to do anything. He often helped his friends and neighbors with their projects. His skills included woodworking, masonry, wrought iron welding, plumbing, and electrical.



Per his request, there will be no formal memorial services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice, Pancreas Cancer Research at Johns Hopkins University, or to the .
