Ed Miller Obituary
Miller, Ed "G.P."

Ed, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away on December 27, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.

Ed was born on June 26, 1938 in Albuquerque, NM to Alvin and Donelda Miller, who preceded him in death. He attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque where he played basketball for the Lobos. Here he also played semi-pro baseball for an independent league. Ed finished his bachelor's degree in Math at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.

On June 12, 1960 Ed married his childhood sweetheart and best friend Martha Mills. Six years later Kevin Olin came into their life, and two years later Kyle Edward completed their family.

Ed was a veteran who proudly served his country in the Army and served 18 months in Korea.

He dedicated 35 years to coaching youth football, basketball, and baseball which made a huge impact on the Las Cruces community. In that time he was able to coach his sons, his grandson, his granddaughter, and his great-grandson, which he was always very proud of. He led a multitude of teams to numerous championships and was always proud and humble to help every child he coached gain knowledge and respect for the sports he so dearly loved. He loved to watch the kids that he coached grow into high school athletes and some into collegiate and professional athletes. Many of those kids still call him "Coach Miller". Ed also served 15+ years on the board of the Las Cruces Bantam Weight Sports Association.

Ed was an avid sports fan, watching everything from the Little League World Series to the NCAA tournaments in basketball, football, and baseball. He always enjoyed watching his Dallas Cowboys every Sunday during football season and the LA Dodgers during baseball season. Although he had his favorite teams, he never objected to watching games of any sort on TV.

During the last 15 years of his life he got sheer joy from teaching Algebra at Dona Ana Community College. He will be missed by all of his students.

In his later years in life Ed became very involved in his church and gained a very special relationship with God and Christ. Morningstar United Methodist Church held a very special place in his heart, as did the members.

Ed is survived by his loving wife Martie; son Kevin and his wife Rachel, son Kyle and his wife Kim; grandson Justin and his fiancee Diana Jaramillo and her children Michael and Matthew; granddaughter Renee and her husband Robert Dubois and his daughter Alexia; great-grandson Neven, who was the light of his life in his later years; his brother Ivall and his wife Vaunetta; nephew Brian Miller; nieces Melissa Horan, Amy Hahn, and their spouses and children.

Services will be led by Pastor Travis on Saturday January 2, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Morningstar United Methodist Church at 2941 Morningstar Dr in Las Cruces.
