Etzcorn, Edna Mild



Edna Mild Etzcorn, born October 18, 1925 in Menominee County, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 after a lengthy illness. She was the sixth child born to Lydia Kortesmaki Mild and Samuel Mild, both of Finland. Edna graduated from Carney School System at age 15 in 1941. She began nursing school in 1943, at the Edward Sparrow Training Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, through the U.S. Navy wartime program. She graduated as a cadet registered nurse in 1946. Edna worked private duty in Chicago, then went on to nursing at the Veterans' Hospital, Ann Arbor, Michigan.

She married Robert Kenneth Etzcorn on May 27, 1949 in Milan, Michigan. They have two children, Derek (Laura) Etzcorn, and Ellen Etzcorn Lewis. After Robert's death in 1962, Edna moved her family to Albuquerque, New Mexico. She left the VA nursing in 1967 and began working as the head nurse at General Electric Company (AEG) medical center, where she remained until retirement in 1985. She relocated to Union City, Tennessee in January, 1986, to be near her sister, Lillian Mild Blakemore. Edna and Lillian moved to Sarasota, Florida, in November, 1991.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her parents, her three brothers, Toivo (Doris), Leonard (Alice), Harry (Hilda) Mild, and her sister, Bertha Mild Hartman (Richard).

She is survived by her sister, Lillian Mild Blakemore (Robert) of Sarasota, FL; her children, Derek (Laura) Etzcorn of Albuquerque, NM, and Ellen Etzcorn Lewis of Sarasota, FL; beloved grandchildren Katherine Lewis Cameron (James) of Sarasota, FL, Robert Kenneth Etzcorn II, Kimberly Marie Etzcorn, Tyler James Etzcorn of Albuquerque, NM; beloved great- grandchildren Ethan and Logan Cameron of Sarasota, FL, and Sophia Lamb of Albuquerque, NM; as well as several nephews and nieces.

Toale Brothers is in charge of arrangements and cremation, and final resting will be in Milan, Michigan at a later date.
