Ellen June Place, age 84, peacefully passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016. She was born March 13, 1932, in Mt Taylor, New Mexico.

Ellen graduated from Los Lunas High School and retired after 33 years of dedicated service at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School. She was a huge sports fan and an accomplished semi-professional bowler, with a 300-pin awarded to her for having bowled a perfect game on more than one occasion. Ellen was a creative arts and craftsman and a accomplished cook. She wrote and published a cookbook entitled New Mexico Chili Cuisine, with the idea of memorializing the delicious native New Mexican recipes with which she grew up and that she has passed down to her family and friends.

Ellen is preceded in death by her husband, William L. Place; parents, Louis Lovato, and Eleanor (Diaz) Lovato; sister, Mary McCarroll; and brother, Benny Valenzuela.

She is survived by her children, William A. Place and wife, Jennifer, Robert Place, and husband, Joseph Minor, and Carla J. Place; sisters, Joan L. Romero, Shirlene Gowens, Diana Ray and husband, Marty; brothers, Lawrence and wife, Maria, and Robert Valenzuela; grandson, Noah; great- granddaughters, Skyler, Belle, and Sofia; long time and special family friend, David Thyfault. Ellen is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

All services will be held at St Augustine in Isleta, NM. A visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, May 1, with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m., on Monday, May 2nd, with a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at San Clemente Cemetery.
