Elsie Virginia (Mann) Kinkel

Elsie Kinkel passed away peacefully on Easter morning, April 1st, 2018, at the age of 93. Elsie was born and raised in Colorado, and lived in Albuquerque and Corrales for more than 40 years. She was active in her church and volunteered her time making quilts for hospitals. She was also a member of the Corrales Historical Society.

Even growing up on a farm during the Depression did not keep her from getting a college degree. Her career as a registered dietitian led her to working in hospitals, with the elderly and with the WIC Program.

She was a talented gardener, cook, baker and seamstress. Her pies and canned goods were often sold to the local restaurants in Corrales or at the Harvest Festival. In the days before online stores, she designed and sold Barbie doll clothes all over the world.

Her grandchildren were very special to her and she shared many of her skills in the garden and kitchen with them. She loved to play board games and cards and enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She volunteered her time to a variety of organizations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James, to whom she was married for almost 60 years. Her daughter, Diane, also preceded her in death in the year 1999. She is survived by her son, Terry Kinkel, and his wife Sandi; her daughter, Peggy Biedermann; her brother, John Mann; her five grandchildren, Ken, Traci, and Holli Kinkel, and Kyle and Steven Biedermann; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A family memorial will be held in Colorado and her ashes will be interred alongside her husband's at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
