Elwood "Woody" Acree, age 83, beloved friend, husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2016 after a short illness. Elwood was a 67-year resident of Albuquerque, moving here from Kentucky when he was 16. He worked as a fighter jet mechanic for the 150th NM Air National Guard. He was a 2-war vet, Korea and Viet Nam. He was a very happy, upbeat person who liked to make others smile and laugh, he did not know a stranger, and had an extensive mental joke book. He retired at age 50 from the Air Force, and spent his time at the local casinos and enjoyed fishing, reading and watching sports on TV. He loved children and always walked up and greeted them and made them smile. He was very generous and donated to many organizations.

He is survived by his brother, Ed Acree; children, Catherine Katz, Albuquerque, Cindy Davis, John Acree (wife Gudi), Julie Acree of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Sadie and Elwood E Acree, brother James Acree, wife Martha Johnston, sister-in-law Nancy Acree.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Methodist Church, (previously Harwood Methodist) at 420 San Lorenzo Ave NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107 on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 10:00 AM, 505-344-4152. Refreshments will be served after the service. Interment will take place following the service at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. The family will be present for the interment.
