Erlinda Garcia Obituary
Garcia, Erlinda

1928-2016

Erlinda (Lindy) Garcia, age 87, a resident of Tome, NM. She lived as she passed with grace and dignity on May 5, 2016. Most people have someone they look up to as a role model, someone they truly admire and respect, Lindy was that person. She was kind and generous, she always placed her family before herself. She was 87 years old, born in Tome, New Mexico. Lindy was a devoted mother, loving grandmother and adoring great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her favorite grandparents, Celso and Luz Salazar; her parents, Enriquez and Francisquita Sanchez; her husband, the love of her life and WWII veteran, Casimiro (Casey) Garcia; brothers, Tomas Sanchez, Alfredo Sanchez and Sister Mela Moya.

She is survived by her children, Richard Garcia, Marie Garcia Shaffner and husband James Wetherill-Shaffner, Ray Garcia and wife Lisa, and Casey Mark Garcia and friend Donna Flock; her grandchildren, Alexander Garcia and his friend Kiane Pound, Casey Garcia and his fiancee, Crystal Shoemaker, Dante Garcia and Nicolas Garcia; great-grandchildren, Tristan and Aria Garcia; "adopted" grandchildren, Jesse and Cecilia Sanchez; brothers, Hermenes Sanchez, Jesus Sanchez; sisters-in-law, Eloisa Castillo and Thereasa Garcia; as well as her many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Lindy loved to bake, garden (we hope there will be lots of weeds to burn in heaven) and creating ceramics figurines. She managed the family farm finances and scheduling and was the "alfalfa moisture tester". Which meant that during harvest she rose every hour throughout the night to make sure the hay was ready to bale and then sent the boys out to begin their work of baling hay. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church Alter Society, a catechism teacher and substitute teacher. She and Casey served as Padrinos of the church in the late 1950's. She was remarkable in many ways. We will miss her happy spirit, thoughtful ways, tortillas and "dichos". No one else could have given us the gifts you gave to us. Your love, kindness, generosity and devotion will be missed.

As per Lindy's wishes, a public visitation will begin at 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Romero Funeral Home Chapel. A final visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic church in Tome. Interment will be at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Santa Fe National Cemetery Honorary pallbearers are Alexander Garcia, Casey Garcia, Dante Garcia, Nicolas Garcia, Clarence Sanchez and Jim Shaffner.

Special thanks to nephew and niece, Clarence and Sheila Sanchez, for their care and kindness throughout Lindy's life, to Diana for the "See's" Candy, to the staff at Belen Meadows, Ambercare and to all family and friends for their positive thoughts, prayers and support.

Thank you Mom and Dad for making us who we are today. We will love you always and forever.
