Ethel Ortenburger Obituary
Ortenburger, Ethel

Age 89, of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at home on March 25, 2016. Ethel was a unique woman who impacted many lives over her lifetime in all the different places she called home. Her children: Leigh, Mark, Terry, Anne, and their father Arthur I. Ortenburger, knew very early in life that they were going to be sharing their mom with a much larger world. Her door was always open to those who were in need of some no-nonsense wisdom, with a strong foundation of caring, love, and respect. On the other hand, if you just happened to be in need of a great friend, you were immediately welcomed into her life. All of this came from a matter-of-fact, unassuming person who, if ever given the ability to step back and look at herself as others saw her, would have been quite surprised.

She provided her Life-Skills Management 101 course to her children, high school exchange students, fellow School Board members (Los Altos, CA), Peace Corps volunteers (Micronesia), law school students (UNM Law School), and yes, even the occasional professor. She also taught kids and adults who wanted to learn to ride and, when the need arose, dispensed the same wisdom to her beloved four-legged equine friends. She became a mother to a number of kids who were going through difficult times in their lives. Her heart was always open.

She greatly loved and cared deeply about the next generation - her grandchildren: Genoa, Mitchell, Lisa, Gina, Matt, Art, Paul, Liese, and Frank. Seeing Noh Noh's special qualities emerging through them is a wonderful legacy indeed.

A fond aloha to a special woman who made a difference to so many.
