Steffen, Eugene (Gene) Francis

Eugene (Gene) Francis Steffen, 85, born in Cleveland, Ohio, lost his eight-year fight with dementia in Prescott, AZ this week with his wife and partner of 35 years, Mary Kaye O'Neill, at his side.

After the Air Force, Gene worked for the City of Auckland, New Zealand, the Dept. of Interior as a resource manager, and as Aviation Manager of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Agency. After retiring, he volunteered to fly with Angel Flight and Light Hawk, some of the most exciting flying of his career. Later, he wrote a children's book based on his experience tracking wild whooping cranes on their annual migration, The Crane Track. He will be missed.
