Talley, Gaye Mangold Momaday



Gaye Mangold Momaday Talley died peacefully in her home in Los Alamos on July 28, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Gaye was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a dedicated teacher and taught reading for many years in the Santa Fe Public Schools and English as a second language at UNM-LA.



Her passions and interests were wide and varied including fashion, food, art, history, travel, books, bridge, film and music. She adored her friends and had an active social life. She was compassionate, honest, determined, witty, strong-willed, caring and incredibly loving and generous. She was a 30 year cancer survivor and was an inspirational and valued friend to those who had been recently diagnosed with cancer.



She was an active member in the United Church of Los Alamos and in a variety of local northern New Mexico organizations.



Although born in Chicago, Gaye loved the culture, people and landscape of New Mexico. She was passionate about learning and speaking Spanish and was involved in conversational language groups for many years.



Gaye is survived by her sister Jerri Anne Foley, her husband of 36 years Thurman Talley, daughters Cael Momaday-Doran, Jill Momaday-Gray and Brit Momaday-Leight, stepchildren Karine and Eric Talley, grandchildren Skye, Natachee, Luke, Tai, Devon and Dylan and step grandchildren Grace and Rhys.



A memorial service will take place at the United Church in Los Alamos on August 27, 2016, at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers a donation to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation,

bcrfcure.org, is requested.
