George J. Romo, 83, a resident of Edgewood, passed away on July 29, 2017, at UNM Hospital with his family at his bedside.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lydia; four children, Ronald Romo, Debbie Baca, Kathy (Marvin) Lasarlly, Joel Romo; step daughters, Christine (Robert) Spindle and Cynthia Hoffecker; sister, Erlinda Rael; sister-in law; Patsy Romo; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son Johnny and daughter Cynthia; brothers Anthony Romo and Baltazar Romo; and parents Avelina and Baltazar Romo.

George was born in Tucumcari, NM on May 3, 1934; he attended St Mary's High School in Albuquerque. From 1952-56 he served in the U.S. Navy onboard the U.S.S. Bennington and U.S.S Pittsburgh. George was a shoe repairman by trade for forty years, and he was the proprietor of the Princess Jeanne Shoe Shop and Romo's Shoe Repair. George was an avid hunter, and enjoyed taking care of his property and tending to his animals.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, August 7, 2016 at the Riverside Funeral Home 225 San Mateo NE Albuquerque, NM 87108. Viewing 11:00 a.m. â€" 11:30 a.m., Service 11:30 a.m. â€" 1:00 p.m. Graveside service with military honors will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
