George Robert Dalphin, 89, of Rio Rancho, died unexpectedly on January 5, 2016. He was born in Malone, NY, on July 30, 1926 to Robert M. Dalphin and Beatrice Ashforth Dalphin. Raised and educated in Brooklyn, NY, he was accepted into the Navy V-12 program and Dartmouth College as a member of the Class of 1947. He married Helen T. St. Mary of Malone in 1945, and upon graduation from Dartmouth became the Map Librarian at the College. In 1963 George left Hanover for a position as a research librarian at Sandia Laboratories and married Helen (Peg) Gulick King. He worked at Sandia for the next 25 years, while continuing to obtain advanced degrees in Fine Arts, Anthropology and Archaeology at UNM. Upon retirement George lived in Oregon, Washington State, and Colorado, until the death of his wife in 2003. In 2005 he returned to Pinos Altos, NM, where he stayed for ten years until moving recently to Rio Rancho, NM.

George is survived by his partner, Joann Mazzio; his children, Patricia Mosenthal (Bill) of Ashburn, VA, Stephen J. Dalphin (Masako) of Garner, NC, and Marcia Dalphin Williams (Bruce) of Norwich, VT. He has six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Richard Dalphin (Carolyn), and John Dalphin (Carole); plus many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Helen St. Mary, and his second wife, Helen King.

At his request, there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the nearest Humane Society.
