Gloria E. Marquez Obituary
Marquez, Gloria E.

A longtime resident of Albuquerque, Gloria Estela Garza Marquez passed away November 18, 2015. She was born in Mexico City on January 2, 1928, one of three children of Col. Fausto Garza and Maria Mercedes Marquez. She married her loving husband Dr. Leon J. Marquez at the Basilica in Mexico City in August, l948. In September of that same year, she moved to Albuquerque. She often reminisced over those first years in New Mexico where she adapted to a new language, culture, foods and a very different, and sometimes a challenging way of life. She was a member and officer of the Pan American Round Table for a number of years. Gloria was very committed to her Catholic faith and was a member of Sacred Heart Church, and when the family moved, she was a long time member of St.Charles Church.

She was a beloved sister to Roberto Garza and Ofelia Marquez, both who preceded her in death. She was a devoted and cherished mother of seven children, 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by five of her children, Gloria Olson, Anna Mobley, Camelia Ferguson, Michelle Smith and Roberto Marquez. Her daughter Magdalena Tafoya, and her son David Marquez preceded her in death. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends as a beautiful, gracious, generous and kind spirit.

Gloria's favorite pastime was playing card games with her children, grandchildren and anyone who braved to challenge her.

Her inner-strength to overcome life's obstacles was reflected in her ever present smile, kindness and generosity to all she met.

Gloria was buried with her husband at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

She will remain in our hearts and minds forever.
