gloria schamel Obituary
Schamel, Gloria Ann

Gloria Ann Tillberg Garcia Schamel saddled up her heavenly horse and rode into the arms of her beloved son, James Brandon and her husband Jim. Gloria, 58, was most happy riding one of her many horses, or skiing down Sandia Peak's moguls or hanging with her dogs, friends and extended family.

Gloria worked for several years as a youth equestrian leader for summer programs. She guided hundreds of youth on horseback through the Rio Grande Bosque sharing her love for horses and the outdoors.

Gloria was born in Sandpoint Idaho and grew up in the Frost Road area on the east side of the Sandia Mountains with her parents Morris and Patty Tillberg and siblings Donna, Beau and Michael.

Gloria attended Manzano High School graduating in 1976. She married and later divorced Jim Garcia. Together they raised one beautiful child, James Brandon, who lovingly cared for his ailing mother until he preceded her in death in September 2016. In 1999, she married Jim Schamel. They had many happy years together and Jim was a dedicated caregiver until he tragically preceded her in death by two weeks in June 2016.

Gloria held several jobs around Albuquerque. She spent many years working at Sandia Peak Ski area operating the ticket office. Gloria was a well-known waitress known for her beautiful blue eyes, lovely smile and contagious laugh. She was a caring and dedicated home health care giver for several years, giving families comfort that their loved ones were well cared for. She was a loyal and fun friend to those she graced with her presence.

In 2009(or 10) Gloria was diagnosed with breast cancer and after chemotherapy slipped into early on-set dementia which took her life much too soon. She became a passionate advocate for breast cancer research. The last year of Gloria's life held some great tests and she met each one of them. Gloria is survived by her beautiful smile and electric baby blue eyes, her family and dear friend's memories.
