Gordon J. Leenerts Obituary
Leenerts, Gordon J.

In Loving Memory

Gordon "Gordo", "GJ" Leenerts, a Nursing professional and longtime New Mexico resident passed away in his home in Albuquerque May 18, 2016 at the young age of 54.

Gordon is survived by his sister Victoria Forsyth; brother Bobby Lancaster and wife Nora; niece Mia Lancaster, his niece Megan Garcia and family; his nephew Joe Paul Forsyth and family; his aunt Erika Eichler; along with many cousins in Lynz, Austria.

Gordon is preceded in death by his mother Olga Eichler-Keith and his father Gordon Leenerts Sr., as well as his beloved dogs Anja Banja and Buster.

Gordon was born November 24, 1962 in Lompoc, CA. "GJ" grew up and spent a majority of his life in Las Cruces, NM however moved to Albuquerque in 2009. Gordon was a member of the healthcare fraternity for the better part of three decades. To say "Gordo" was well respected by his peers would be a gross understatement. His knowledge and leadership was prodigious, but more importantly his passion for patient care was truly remarkable. He embodied the saying "treat every patient as if they were your' own Mother." No matter the difficulty of the situation he handled it with poise. The industry will grieve his loss greatly.

"Gordo" loved the water and all that came with it as scuba diving was on e of his many talents and took him on travels from the Grand Cayman Islands to Thailand. He was a real history buff and took every opportunity to learn more about it. He loved the outdoors and spent time camping, boating and fishing. He loved his pets like children. His love of music was profound. He was a novice golfer but a master merrymaker. Gordon had many interests which suited him properly but none of them eclipsed his love for his family and friends. Gordon loved to smile but more importantly loved to bring a smile to others. Gordon will be sorely missed but his life was truly lived in a way that should be celebrated. So to Gordon, "Gordo", "GJ", CHEERS!

There will be a remembrance ceremony in Albuquerque at the Lovelace Medical Center Chapel on Thursday, May 26th among Gordons peers. There will also be a celebration of life in Las Cruces at a date to be later determined. Per Gordons wishes cremation has taken place and burial will be at Sea.
