Harold A. Newlander



Age 94, passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico on 11 February 2016. He was born to Carl E. and Ida V. Newlander in Lansing, Michigan on 26 December 1921. Raised in upper New York State, he graduated from Penn Yan High School at age sixteen and went on to earn his degree in Dairy Science from Cornell University after serving in WW II as an armory gunner on a B-25 bomber, flying 50 missions in the Mid-Pacific, earning numerous metals including the Purple Heart.

Harold and Betty Lou O'Connor were married in Hollywood, California on 26 May 1945. Together they raised their family in the Mid-Atlantic States before making Albuquerque their permanent home in 1962.

For most of his post war career he was employed in the ice cream manufacturing industry, to include having his own consulting firm. Harold was involved with the B.P.O.E. organization for 40+ years, holding many elected positions, including NM State President. He was named honorary lifetime Ritual Committee Judge. He was a member of St. Andrews and First Presbyterian Churches in Albuquerque.

Harold is survived by his three sons, David (wife, Lynette), Alan (wife, Stacey), and Mark (wife, Tina); eight grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild.
