Henry L. Holmberg Obituary
Holmberg, Henry L.

1921 - 2016

Henry L. Holmberg Sr. (Bud), passed away surrounded by family on April 6, 2016, five days past his 95th birthday.

Born in Santa Fe on April 1, 1921 to Emma and Roy Holmberg, he spent most of his childhood in Santa Fe until moving to Albuquerque. After his high school graduation, he went to Colorado State College of Agriculture and Mechanics (now known as Colorado State University), and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Range Management. Because he was a member of the Advanced ROTC Artillery Program, he was immediately inducted into the Army upon his graduation in 1943. He served as a Captain in the Mule-Pack Artillery Battalion in the China/Burma/India Theatre.

At the end of WWII, he returned to Albuquerque where he met his future wife, Angela Chiado. They married in July 1948 and raised a family of seven children. In 1960 Henry became the owner of the Camera Shop in downtown Santa Fe for nearly two decades. He was a well-respected member of the business community, known for his honesty and integrity.

In the years following retirement, Henry joined the Santa Fe Sheriff's Posse and helped in many search and rescue missions. He also enjoyed sailing with family on his sailboat, The Ultimate Folly, in the Abaco Islands. But his greatest pleasures were found at home, tending to his vegetable gardens, riding his horses, reading a book a day and counting his blessings with Angela, who predeceased him in 2010. His son, Hank, also predeceased him in 2013.

Henry is survived by six daughters, Kathy (Rick) Brooks, Carol Holmberg, Teresa (Kent) Lynch, Patty (Dan) Bodelson, Stefanie Flowers and Jean (David) Holmberg-Mullin; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and his sister, Royene Mason. He also leaves behind his old horse and friend, Sonny.

Henry's was a life well-lived and well-loved. He would say he got his money's worth! Well known for his sense of humor, ready smile and firm handshake, he never met a stranger. He always enjoyed a good story, whether narrating or listening to one. He will be profoundly missed.

The family would like to thank those at Heritage Home Health and Hospice for their kind support and guidance; and our wonderful caregivers who, through their excellent and compassionate care made it possible for Henry to remain in his own home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Berardinelli Mortuary on July 8, 2016 at 11:00 AM, followed by interment at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Food Depot or the Heart and Soul Sanctuary of Santa Fe.

Happy trails to you, Dad, until we meet again.
