Shemano, Irving (Irv) Z., PhD


Irv passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at the age of 87. He was born in San Francisco, California, to Boris and Grace (Schein) Shemano. He received both his Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of California, Berkeley. His Doctorate degree in Pharmacology was received at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada, where he met Mollie, his wife of nearly 60 years. His career was varied, most of it spent in doing research in clinical oncology at various drug companies in Philadelphia, Cincinnati and Columbus. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed both participating in and watching various sports and listening to music. He had a sparkling sense of humor and often entertained friends and family. Irv and Mollie retired to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1993 and enjoyed spending time with friends and engaging in many activities. He wrote articles for scientific magazines and volunteered at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Department.

He is survived by his wife, Mollie (Labovitch) Shemano; his children, Deborah and David; grandchildren, Jessica, Andrew, Danielle, Juno and Solomon; his four great-grandchildren, Julianna, Audrey, Lillian and Chase; brother-in-law, Abie Kacew and wife Myra of Edmonton, Canada; sister-in-law, Ev Fritz of Dayton, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
