J. Anthony Spataro Obituary
Spataro, J. Anthony

J. Anthony Spataro (Tony), age 73, passed away at home after a long battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He is survived by his long time companion and wife, Sallie Idoine; and his children, Ashlee Spataro, Seain Spataro, Valarie Merkau and husband, Chris, and step-son, Aron Idoine.

Most of Tony's childhood was spent in various orphanages in Illinois, including Illinois Sailors and Soldiers Children's School in Normal, Illinois. After high school he served in the U.S. Marines for four years. Later he received a BS degree from Southern Illinois University, a PhD from the University of New Mexico and a post doctorate from Northwestern University. Tony taught at the high school and college levels in Florida, Oklahoma, Illinois, and New Mexico. He loved statistics, science, astronomy, wood-working, and most of all, coaching track and field to high school students in West Palm Beach, Florida and at St. Pius and Rio Grande High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Tony will be missed by his many close friends and family members. So much gratitude must go to his outstanding and loving home caregivers and to the nurses and doctors at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the ALS Association, 2309 Renard Place, SE #202, Albuquerque, NM 87106
