Jack Creighton Obituary
Creighton, Jack

Jack W. Creighton passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at the age of 84, after a courageous battle with ALS.

He is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Mary; his children, Gary (Ginger), Sharon (Jim), Debra (Hank) and Jerry (Beth); ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren and another one on the way. He is also survived by his brother, Gene (Glenda); & numerous nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Ruth Creighton; his brother, Johnnie Creighton; and stepson, Johnny Walker.

Jack was born near Portales on September 3, 1931. Later, he and his family moved to a newly acquired ranch, northwest of Elida, NM, where he attended school, graduating from high school in 1949.

When the Korean War started, he joined the Navy on January 2, 1951, and was honorably discharged four years later. He returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Oma Lee McClesky, and they moved their family to Las Cruces, where Jack attended New Mexico State University.

Graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, he was immediately employed by Horace Mann Insurance Co. Raising to the rank of state manager of the company, he was requested to move to Albuquerque when Oma Lee became ill and passed away.

Jack and his wife, Mary, purchased Culver Insurance Agency in 1974, later renaming the agency to Creighton Agency, and moved to Belen the following year. It was Jack's goal to always treat his customers with honesty and integrity when assisting them with their insurance needs.

He was a member and past president of the Belen Rotary Club, serving in various positions. He especially enjoyed the student exchange program. He and Mary hosted several students from various countries. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow by his fellow Rotarians.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, May 14, at St Philip's Episcopal Church, 113 La Luna Place, in Rio Communities.

At Jack's request, in lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to St. Philip's Building Fund or the ALS foundation.
