Jack Lynn Adams Obituary
Adams, Jack Lynn

Jack L. Adams, beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, colleague, physician and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 19, 2015, following a prolonged illness.

Jack was born in Broken Bow, NE on November 1, 1928 to Pearl and John Adams, and grew up with his sister Jeanne and half brother and sister Bud and Maxine Kerns. After graduating from high school in 1946, Jack moved to Denver, CO where he practiced as a pharmacy assistant. In 1949 Jack married Ruth Phelps and, with the support and encouragement of his in-laws Dwight and Ruth Phelps, he attended University of Colorado Medical School and graduated with his medical degree in 1958. Jack and Ruth moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1958 where Jack completed his internship and residency at Bernalillo County Indian Hospital, the precursor to University of New Mexico Hospital, where he chose to specialize in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 1966, Jack married Mary Ann Folkner, a labor and delivery nurse at BCIH. Jack continued to practice Ob/Gyn in Albuquerque where he delivered over 5,000 babies during his career until 2004 when he retired from Women's Specialists of New Mexico.

Jack is survived by his wife Mary Ann, to whom he was married for almost 50 years; and children including Sheri Gibson and her husband Gary and their daughters Marissa and Briana, Roby Folkner and his wife Louise and their daughters Heather and Meghan, Mark Folkner and his wife Susan and their daughters Erin and Jessica and Jacque Vigliano and her husband Dave, Holly Adams, Chuck Folkner, Stephen Folkner and John Christopher Folkner. Jack's grand and great-grandchildren include Samantha Adams and her husband Arlyn Crow and their children Madison Whitsell, and Clare and Anson Adams-Crow, Mike and Valori Adams, and Ryan Vigliano. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pearl; his sister, Jeanne and half-brother and sister Bud and Maxine; and his sons, John and David Adams.

Jack was known for his love for his family, his passion for caring for others, his wonderful, crazy sense of humor, his obsession and expertise in collecting Native American art, and his love of music, dancing and fast cars. He adored his many grand and great-grandchildren. When the grandchildren were young, every Christmas and Easter Jack would escort all of them dressed in beautiful holiday attire to local hospitals where they would sing for the patients and medical staff and hand out candy. Jack was larger than life itself and was loved by all of his family, patients, colleagues and friends. He will be missed.
