Howard, Jacqueline Veva

Jacqueline Veva Howard, age 75, died on Friday, October 30, 2015, in Wichita Falls, Texas, of complications due to dementia. Jackie was born on April 24, 1940, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the daughter of the late Jack F. and Theresa M. Howard.

Jackie is survived by three daughters, Doni Schnuelle and son-in-law, Mark, Delaine Veva Wiersema and son-in-law, Carl, and Pam Marshall; her adored granddaughter, Kateri Veva Wiersema; and sister, Dottie Witt of Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Jackie graduated from Highland High School where she was a cheerleader and played field hockey. She was a graduate of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, where she earned a bachelors degree in industrial management. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

Jackie devoted her life to serving others. Her church activities included leading Vacation Bible School, serving as Youth Group Leader and teaching Sunday school.

Jackie worked for 17 years at Lovelace Rehabilitation Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as an aquatic physical therapy technician. During this time, she formed a Special Olympics swim team she named, River Rats. As a result of her devotion to the team, Jackie was inducted into the New Mexico Special Olympics Hall of Fame in 2009. She also coached her athletes in cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, biking, scuba diving, water skiing and hiking.

A service to celebrate Jacqueline Veva Howard's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Place NE, Albuquerque, NM.
