James Burns Obituary

Burns, James F. "Jim" Jr.

James F. "Jim" Burns Jr., beloved father, brother, grandfather and friend went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Jim was born in New York on July 9, 1937 to Sara "Sadie" (Mulligan) and James "Scotty" F. Burns Sr.

At the age of 7, Jim moved to Southern California with his family. They settled in the Glendale/Eagle Rock area where the family raised Jim and his eight siblings, Edward, Michael, Alice, Rose, Joseph, Peter, John and Henry.

Jim attended St. Bernard's Catholic School and went on to Cathedral High graduating in 1955. He continued his education at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) receiving a Bachelor's in Business Administration. He even passed the CPA exam before graduation from college.

In 1962, Jim met and married Margie (Hagerman) Gfeller and had three daughters, Kim, Karen and Karla.

Jim spent his career in the financial industry starting in the accounting division at Arthur Anderson & Co. as an Audit Manager. Jim joined United California Bank in the Corporate Accounting department in 1970 where he met and married Lorraine Duran. He quickly rose to the position of Chief Financial Officer in 1975. Upon leaving the bank after 20 years, he moved to Lorraine's home state of New Mexico where he continued to serve on boards for: CBR Financial, Integretec and Silcon Valley Bank Financial.

Jim enjoyed photography, gardening, growing roses and day trading of stocks. He was also well known for his generosity. For those who knew Jim, he liked to do things on a grand scale; whether that was shopping at Costco, recording shows to watch on VHS tapes or tending his 200+roses. When Jim decided to do something, he fully committed to it.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Kim Burns, Karen Hernandez and Karla Burns; his son-in-laws, John Hernandez and Brett Dillenberg; his siblings, Edward and Yvonne Burns, Alice and Neil Ward and Henry Burns along with his six grandchildren, Brittney Hernandez, Brandon Hernandez, Bryan Hernandez, Dean Dillenberg, Devyn Dillenberg and Davis Dillenberg.

Jim will be forever loved and missed by all whose lives he touched.

Burial will be on March 27th, 2017 at 2:15pm at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
