James Kay Culbertson

James "Jim" Culbertson, 92, passed away peacefully in his home on Dec. 8th, 2017 in Albuquerque, NM. Jim was born in Fort Scott, Kansas in 1925 and was raised in Jackson, Tennessee. He joined the Navy in October 1943 and moved to Albuquerque to attend UNM with the Naval ROTC program. There he met the love of his life, Connie, and they were married in June of 1946. Jim had a distinguished career with the US Geological Survey as an internationally known sediment specialist.

Jim's passions were music and singing. He was in numerous singing groups and was a dedicated member of the Highland Harmonizers for the past 25 years. He was also an active member of the University Heights United Methodist Church for 35 years. Jim was an incredibly talented civil engineer and was amazing with his hands, having built the first home that he and his wife lived in. He was also a loved Boy Scout leader. Jim loved genealogy and spending time with extended family at Family Reunions all over the country.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 71 years, Connie Culbertson; son Kinley Culbertson and Hiladawn; daughter Kay Taylor and Steve; granddaughter Bonnie Priddy and Chris and great-grandchildren Tyler and Zach; grandson Jonathan Taylormoore and Melissa and great-grandchildren Samantha & Owen; numerous nieces & nephews; as well as many loving friends.

We will miss his loving nature, sense of humor, and beautiful tenor voice.

Celebration of Jim's life will be announced & held at later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to University Heights United Methodist Church.
