James Earl Lieuwen



James Lieuwen was born on June 1, 1960 and passed on December 4, 2017 after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Marian Lieuwen & his brother John Lieuwen. He is survived by brothers Peter (Bonnee) and Andrew (Laurie Magill) Lieuwen, sister Catherine Lieuwen, nephew Taylor Lieuwen, and niece Emma Lieuwen.

James grew up in Albuquerque and graduated from Albuquerque Academy in 1977. He began college at the University of California, Berkeley and later transferred to the University of New Mexico where he earned a degree in Geology in 1985. He went on to earn his JD at the University of Oregon in 1989 and moved back to Albuquerque to pursue his legal career both in private practice and with Bernalillo County.

James was a kind soul who enjoyed cooking, fishing, hiking, dogs, and rock music, especially that of Tom Petty. He will be missed by his family and friends.

A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his name to Animal Humane NM.
