Dr. James Finley Prewitt

James (Jim) Finley Prewitt, age 74, passed away October 10th, 2017 while on vacation in Barcelona, Spain.

Jim was born in Lexington, Kentucky and grew up in Ohio. Jim and his wife, Sharon and three small children moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in the fall of 1969 to start his career as a physicist. For almost 50 years, Jim worked for several small engineering companies that contracted with Kirtland Air Force. Although Jim was trained as a scientist, he was a true renaissance man. He loved music and history, studied archaeology and religion, and was always exploring new ideas and stretching himself and others to the limit. Jim worked passionately for peace and justice. He fought hard to find ways to save and respect our environment, and he reached out to people who were on the edge of society. Jim was member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church since 1970 & was active in many areas of the church.

Jim is survived by his wife Sharon of 54 years and three children, Marc and wife Yun Joo, Lise, and Molly and husband Michael and sponsored son, Ramesh and wife Gaya; six grandchildren and a new born great-grandson as well as a brother Bill and wife Ruth who live in Houston, TX.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church January 13th at 3:00 PM. Memorials can be made to New Mexico Faith Coalition, the Mountain View Community Action, and St. Andrew Presbyterian Church social justice committee.
