Jory, James R., DDS (Ret.)

March 16, 1940-June 30, 2016



Born in Tucson, Arizona the second of three sons born to Edward and Louise (Naylor) Jory, passed peacefully in Colorado Springs after a 2 ½ year battle with a brain tumor. His family and friends surrounded him throughout his illness and at his passing.

Raised throughout the southwest, his family settled in Albuquerque where Jim graduated from Highland High School. He then received degrees from Idaho State University, University of Missouri at Kansas City Dental School and Loyola University Dental School in Chicago. In Kansas City he met and married a nurse, Marcia Ewing. After graduating from Loyola he established an Orthodontic practice in Albuquerque which he maintained for 20 years before moving to Colorado. Since an early age he loved downhill skiing and fishing. He was frequently seen skiing fresh powder in the trees at Mary Jane or chutes at Taos. After retirement he focused on creating art glass vases through the Lost Wax Casting process. He and Marcia traveled throughout the country displaying his art glass in many juried shows.

Preceded in death by his parents and brother Edward Jory Jr. (USMC Viet Nam).

He is survived by Marcia, wife of 49 years; and brother Robert "Hoot" (Melissa) of Salida; daughter Kirsten (Patrick Jugo) of St. Louis and children Erika, Merritt and Mitchell Jugo; son Kendall (Valerie Bain, MD) of Denver and children Reed and baby due fall 2016. Jim is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him but they may pause on the slopes or river bank and raise a Bombay Sapphire martini with olive in his memory.

A Celebration of Life service will be held.
