Janelle Campbell

Janelle Campbell, age 78, peacefully passed on December 23, 2020. Born in Nashville on May 27, 1942, Janelle moved to Albuquerque in the late 1960's. She gave birth to both her children and spent the rest of her life in this city she loved.

Janelle was the founder, owner and operator of Creative Learning Center, a tutoring and college prep service. Her second husband, Jack Oberst, was a fellow educator and partner in the business for many years, and her marriage with him from 1990 until his death in 2003 was full of happiness and adventure.

Janelle is survived by her son, Jim Suttle, founding pastor of Calvary Chapel of Roswell, New Mexico and daughter Nicole Taylor, a childbirth educator living abroad in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Between them, Janelle had six grandchildren and one great grandson. She also leaves behind her sister Darlene Scott of Charleston, SC and her brother James Campbell of Columbus, GA.

Janelle loved the ABQ BioPark, enjoying concerts and much time there with family and friends. Donations are suggested in lieu of flowers.

Janelle joyfully fought a lifelong battle with Multiple Sclerosis, a disease she contracted in her early 20's. A memorial fund has been established in her honor at

Janelle was always a cheerful and engaged whenever we saw her. She was always there for family events and brought her warmth and love. She lived with power and energy through her MS and it never seemed to slow down her love and laughter. I am sharing a picture of her and Jack doing what they did most and best. We love you Janelle, thank you for what you gave us.

I admired Janelle's attitude and sensibilities. These were qualities that made her an effective educator. She was even positive and resourceful about moving to Brookdale. If there is an afterlife, I imagine her embracing it as an adventure as well. Cheers, Janelle!
