Janet Ann White

Janet Ann White, 88, loved and liked by all who knew her, passed away December 25, 2017. Janet was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born to Frank V. and Thrina (Baker) Van Valkenburg on November 16, 1929 in Mount Vernon, Washington. She grew up in the town of her birth, and graduated from Union High School in 1947. Janet married Theodore (Ted) White in 1948, and worked as a clerk and secretary until 1952 when she stopped working to become a full-time mother to her two sons William (Bill) and John. Janet and Ted moved to Everett, Washington in 1949 where Ted began work as a mathematics instructor. Bill was born in 1953 and John in 1956. Janet worked diligently raising her two sons, while caring for her husband, maintaining the household and being involved with church and other civic activities. As her boys were nearing graduation, she re-entered the workforce in 1970, and began a career working in the Admissions Office at Everett Community College. The same caring and diligence that she applied to raising her family brought appreciation and praise from her co-workers. Janet retired as manager of the Admissions Center at Everett Community College at the end of 1989. In retirement Janet and Ted traveled, spent time with grandchildren, and volunteered. They lived in Marysville for 18 years from 1985 to 2002, and then spent a few years each in Walla Walla and Seattle before settling down in Albuquerque, NM in 2011. Wherever they lived they made friends and became involved in civic activities and volunteering.

Janet is survived by her brother, Frank Van Valkenburg; sons, William A. White with wife Priscilla (Sam), and John White with wife Mabel (Lucero); eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves other cherished family members and friends. Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, and her brother Robert Van Valkenburg.
