Jennifer L. Stone Obituary
Stone, Jennifer L.

Jennifer Stone, loving wife, mother, grandmother, dear friend to many, brilliant, hard-working and talented professional, and dedicated member of her community, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016. Jennifer had struggled valiantly with ovarian cancer from the time of her diagnosis in 2013. She was born in Los Alamos, New Mexico on November 1, 1965, to Peggy and Sid Pinkston. Always a brilliant student, she enrolled in the University of New Mexico in 1983, where she met her future husband, Chip Stone. Jennifer had an impressive, varied legal career that began and culminated at her beloved Rodey Law Firm, where she was a director and shareholder. Her powerful intellect, professionalism, and passion served many New Mexicans throughout her career.

Jennifer and Chip were married on May 30, 1987, and have two wonderful children. Jordan, 25, lives and works in Denver, and Caitlin is a 22-year-old senior at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. On December 15, 2015, Caitlin gave birth to Jennifer and Chip's first grandchild, a beautiful girl named Catarina Elyse Martinez.

Jennifer is especially remembered for her spirit of generosity, her deep empathy for people and animals, her knack for gracefully solving problems, her modesty about her many professional recognitions, her loyalty, and her infectious sense of humor. She was also a world- class knitter, making beautiful creations for family and friends. Jennifer and Chip shared a passion for live music and the great outdoors.

In recent years, Jennifer and Chip have been avidly involved in outdoor rock climbing, gym climbing, and camping throughout the Southwest. While undergoing cancer treatments in June 2014, Jennifer participated in the HERA Women's Cancer Foundation's Climb4Life in Boulder, Colorado, to raise funds for research to eliminate ovarian cancer. She was the only participant who climbed outdoors in Boulder Canyon despite active cancer treatment.

In her professional life Jennifer was devoted to the practice of law at Rodey Law, and in her personal life she was ardently devoted to her family.

Jennifer is survived by her husband Chip; children Jordan and Caitlin Stone; granddaughter Catarina; Caitlin's partner Jason Martinez; her mother Peggy Pinkston; her brother and two sisters, in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Jennifer's family and countless friends will celebrate her life and remember her with love and affection.

We would especially like to thank all of the caregivers who did so much, especially Dr. Francisco Ampuero and his wonderful staff, Dr. Karen Lu at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Dr. Carolyn Muller and her staff at the UNM Cancer Center, the wonderful folks at the El Camino Imaging Center, and the doctors, nurses and staff at the Gentiva Inpatient Hospice Unit where she spent her final days and died peacefully. We love and appreciate all of you and each and every friend, family member, colleague who visited and brought food and flowers and kind words. Jennifer was an extraordinary soul and will be missed greatly.

A celebration of Jennifer's life is planned for the summer and donations can be made to the Animal Humane Society.
