Jess Miranda, age 89, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017.

He was born in Coffeyville, KS on September 23, 1927 to Jose and Leonor (Herrera) Miranda.

Jess was preceded in death by his parents; his Step-mother Martina Miranda; his brother Daniel Miranda; and his daughter-in-law Theresa Miranda.

Jess is survived by his wife of 64 years Isabelle (Moya) Miranda; his son, Phil Miranda, of Rio Rancho, NM; his daughters Sara (Al) Sanchez, of Albuquerque, NM, and Tena (Jimmy) Chavez, of Albuquerque, NM; his ten grandchildren; and his seven great grandchildren.

Jess graduated from Field Kinley High School. He received a bachelor degree from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, and a Master Degree from Indiana State University in Terra Haute, Indiana. Jess was a US Navy Veteran who proudly served in World War II and the Korean War. Jess had a prestigious coaching career of 30 years, coaching both baseball and basketball, with 20 years at Albuquerque High School. Jess and Isabelle enjoyed attending the annual USS Antietam ship reunions.

His retirement years were dedicated to following the numerous activities of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was known to be a kind soul, calm, quiet, but very strong. Jess had many serious health issues in his later years, but never complained and showed tremendous strength and courage.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Jess's dedicated caregivers Maria, Rita, and Anjelica. They also wished to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Health South and the staff of Liberty Dialysis Center.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 5:00 to 6:00 pm with a Rosary to follow at 6:00 pm. at Daniels Family Funeral Services Sara Road Chapel, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 10:00 am at St Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114. Inurnment to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 North Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
