Miranda, Jo Nelle

(1933 - 2015)

Jo Nelle Miranda, age 82, of Albuquerque passed away on December 27th after battling Alzheimer's disease. She was an intelligent and vivacious public educator; an entrepreneur; and someone who had a smile and a twinkle in her eye that will never, ever be forgotten.

Born in Lamesa, Texas, Dr. Miranda received her bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from the University of New Mexico. She was a teacher and assistant principal at Rio Grande High School, an assistant principal Eldorado High School, and principal at McKinley Middle School. She later taught at the University of New Mexico.

Jo Nelle is survived by Gilbert, her husband of 40 years, whom she loved to travel with. She is also survived by Gilbert's children: Leola Curtis; Carl Miranda; Lori Miranda and her husband, James Pastoor; and Rod Miranda; grandson, Bryan Curtis, his wife Christine, and her great-grandchildren Owen and Stella; and granddaughter Miranda Cook, her husband Benjamin, and her great-grandchildren Joseph and James. Jo Nelle is also survived by her nephews and niece, Glenn Curtis Vinyard III, Jody Vinyard, and Sherry Hott; and her cousin Jay Turner and his wife Beverly.

Jo Nelle was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Nell Vinyard; her aunt and uncle, Bill and Elizabeth Sullivan; and brother, Glenn Vinyard.

A funeral will be held January 7, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, 812 Edith Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
