JoAnn B. Carnahan Obituary
Carnahan, JoAnn B.

JoAnn Bess (Jo) Carnahan passed away peacefully with her children at her bedside on Saturday, March 12, 2016. Jo was born in Belpre, Kansas in 1928 to Archie and Velma Hager. Her family moved across the country, as many did during that time, landing for a time in Chicago. It was there she met her husband to be, George R. (Dick) Carnahan as a sophomore at Yale High School.

Jo and Dick were married in Glenwood Springs, Colorado in 1947, upon Dick's return from service in WWII.

They and their four children settled in Albuquerque in 1961. Jo worked as a phone operator for Mountain Bell and later after receiving her Master's Degree in counseling and held positions as a parole officer and in youth offender services.

Jo's concern for others was apparent to all she encountered. She volunteered for numerous causes and organizations during her lifetime. From assisting Viet Nam veterans to providing hospice care; Jo devoted her time to those in need.

Jo was preceded in death by husband Dick and son Steve. She is survived by her sister Jeanne Scheufler; daughters Ellen Hein (husband Scott), Laurie Cunningham (husband Dan); son Matt (wife Lisa); five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A private family service will be held.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of Palmilla Senior Living and Hospice Compassus for their devotion and loving support.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donation to a charity of you choice.
