Phifer, Joe S. Jr.

Joe S. Phifer Jr., age 93, died the morning of April 29, 2017, at Kindred Hospice in Lovelace Medical Center, Albuquerque, NM.

Mr. Phifer is survived by his wife of 59 years, Leola Hennessee Phifer, as well as his two children, Carol Phifer and Lisa Loftis. In addition, he leaves behind two grandchildren, Lia (Jimmy) Lloyd and Kali Loftis. He also leaves behind his beloved Chihuahua, Zia.

Mr. Phifer is a veteran of World War II. He served 6 years in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater, primarily as an aircraft mechanic aboard the USS Essex. He grew up in Onward, TN, the only son of Joe S. Phifer, Sr., and Ethel Goddard Phifer. After the war, he worked for many years as a rural letter carrier and farmer in Quebeck, TN. "Pa Joe" and Leola moved to Albuquerque in 1998.

The family wishes to acknowledge the special friendship and devotion of Marnie Burch and of Lee Woodall, Kali's fiance.

Services will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017, at 1:30 PM at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Resource Organization.
