John A. Westman Obituary
Westman, John A. (Jack)

John A. (Jack) Westman has passed away after a lengthy illness. Born in Hartford, CT, he and his family found permanent residency in Whitter, CA. After receiving a scholarship to attend UNM, Jack discovered Albuquerque to be the perfect match for his career dreams, and New Mexico held all the beauty and culture he'd ever wanted.

After serving as Lieutenant in the Navy, he graduated from UNM with a degree in Civil Engineering. In 1973 he won the National Young Engineer of the Year Award, and went on to become a partner in the engineering firm Bohannan, Huston and Westman. In combination with his professional life, he was also elected President of the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce in 1977. After many successful ventures, his later years were spent primarily as a commercial and residential real estate developer.

A lover of fly fishing, he spent his ideal time combing the rivers and lakes in New Mexico, Wyoming and Canada. He also enjoyed politics and played key roles for many of New Mexico's governors. A State Highway Commissioner and a member of The Blue Ribbon Task Force were some of the positions he held.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 25 years, Laurel Westman; and his son, Steven Jeffrey Westman. He will be missed for his humor, sensitivity, and loving impact on those who knew him.

An active Christian Scientist, his final wishes were to pass quietly without a funeral. In lieu of flowers, any gifts or donations may go to the Christian Science Reading Room, 114 Richmond Dr. SE, Albuquerque 87106.
