John R. Kennedy

John R Kennedy better known as "John R" passed away on October 2, 2017 at 1:30 AM due to health complications. He is survived by his wife Patsy Kennedy, son Kenney Kennedy, wife Susan, daughter Crissie Elwess, her husband Austin and sister Shirley Baker, grandchildren JT, Brandon, Mariah, Annie, Megan, KT, great grandchildren Lia, JR & Amber, along with many nieces and nephew's.

John R spent the first 18 years in Chambersburg , PA doing everything from shining shoes to picking apples to shoveling snow When John R was 18, his brother Charles Kennedy was stationed at KAFB & told him how great the weather was, John R came out one summer & never went back, he always said it was too cold for him in PA. John R met his wife Patsy at a dance in the summer of '63, they were married Nov. 22, 1963 having their first son in 1965 & daughter 6 years later in 1971. John R was a jack of all trades'; he did everything from working on the railroad & coming home on weekends to working at a lumberyard loading lumber which he became the general manager of.

John R also delivered laundry & worked his way up to route supervisor & then sales manager. John R was also an entrepreneur he created a business called Kennedy & Son handyman service, later in life opened a coin operated laundry & turned it into a large commercial laundry A1 linen a family business for over 25 years. John understood to succeed in life, one must work hard, and always watch the pennies. John R was a long time member and Commander of the Sons of the American Legion & spent most of his life serving veterans. He was called out of retirement to run the American Legion Post 49 in its time of crisis once he mastered that task he retired a second time to go back to spend time on the Chama river with his wife Patsy & there 2 dogs. John R was an amazing man & would give you the shirt off his back & do anything for you without even asking why, this among many other great attributes is why we refer to him as John R the man the myth the legend. Please join us at 11005 Central St, American Legion Post 49 on Sunday October 8th, from 12 to 3 for services & a good old fashion Irish Wake! In lieu of flowers John R request donations be made to Post 49.
