Newton, John L.

John L. Newton, born in Dowagiac, Michigan on June 11, 1921, passed away, peacefully, at home, on July 16, 2016, in Peralta, NM.

John served in the Army Air Corp, in Europe during World War II, as a radar tech. He worked as a tool and die maker in South Bend, Indiana. John and his three sons were active in the Indian Guides and Boy Scouts. His family moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1959 for a job as a machinist at Sandia Labs and he retired in 1980. John was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge 68 in Albuquerque. John and his wife moved to Harlingen, Texas, square danced, traveled and fished for over 26 years.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Yvonne Newton; sister, Doris Newton; and brother, Claude Newton.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of 69 ½ years, Marilyn Newton; daughter, Jacquelyn and spouse, Charles Barnes; son, Larry Newton and spouse, Gladys; son, Terry Newton; daughter, Sandy Newton McMannes and spouse, Emily; son, Bruce Newton and spouse, Angela; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and niece, Kathy Hoover .

Memorial services will be held later in the year.
