John Carroll Pollak

Long-time resident of Santa Fe John Carroll Pollak died peacefully at home on March 2, 2018, with his nearest kin at his side. Born in Detroit and raised in the upper peninsula of Michigan, during the Viet Nam War John served with the U.S. Marines, seeing action in the Tet Offensive. Upon discharge, John met and soon married Nancy Soward of West Covina, California. They shortly moved to Santa Fe. Acquiring a BA in Philosophy and English from UNM and an MA in Liberal Arts from St John's College, he remained a man devoted to thought and letters throughout his life. An active member of the community, he was for many years President of the Santa Fe chapter of the St. John's College Alumni Association, while also an avid runner active with the Santa Fe Striders. A lover of music and a fine cook, he will be remembered for his quick wit, insightful observations at the seminar table, and devotion to his family and friends. Preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Nancy, and his parents, John and Juanita, John is survived by his son, Justin and his brother, Paul.
