Prentice, John Wayne

John Wayne Prentice, devoted educator and naturalist passed away May 18, 2017 in Albuquerque, following a massive stroke on January 7th, 2017.

Born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on May 12th, 1940. Wayne is survived by his sister Winne Balensiefen, his children David Prentice and Susan Lakeman,his grand children Jonathan Lakeman, Michael Lakeman and Sky Prentice. Wayne was preceded in death by his son Michael Franz Prentice, 10-28-68 to 9-2-84.

Know to friends as Wayne and "Mr P" to the thousands of children he taught at Apache Elementary school during his 40 year career. Wayne created a unique wildlife museum at Apache with over 250 specimens on display.

Wayne was an avid outdoorsman, an active boy scout leader at troop 285, leading over 3,000 miles of backcountry excursions. He also served as the head APS track and field high jump official for 20+ years.

A life Celebration will be held June 9th and 10th. the 9th an open house will be held at the Apache wildlife museum 12800 Copper st ne, abq, 87123 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. June 10th. Wild game feast and memorial service at the Kiwanis pavilion in Elena Gallegos picnic area. feast 4-6:30. followed by the memorial celebration and story telling from 6:30 to 8:00. RSVP to 720-5436
