Jose Richard "JR" Gurule, age 65, a resident of Tome, NM, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016. He was a member of the Catholic Faith, and proudly served in the United States Army, 1968 - 1974, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Expert (Rifle 111-16) and the Good Conduct Medal. Jose retired from ABF after 25 years of service, earning numerous safety awards, including two million miles accident free Driving award. He was a member of the Teamster's Union. Jose loved camping, deer hunting and baseball. In his early years he was known as one of the best homerun baseball hitters in Valencia County, and made many life-long friends. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and had a great passion for Harley motorcycles. Jose also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Jose is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ramon and Adeline "nana and tata" Gurule; parents, Osbar and Emma Gurule; baby sister, Dora; grandson, Nathaniel; and many uncles and aunts.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Loretta Gurule; son, Jason Gurule and wife, Adela, Keith Gurule and wife, Alberta Lovato; grandchildren Isaac, Trinity, Zaida, and Amris Gurule; brothers and sisters, Derla Gurule, Clarence Gurule and wife, Julie, Dinah Cordova and husband, Edwin, Anthony Gurule and wife, Sandra, George Gurule and wife, Jennifer, Marie Gonzales and husband, Tommy, and Annette McDaniel and husband, Lee. Jose is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

All services will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Church in Tome. A Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m., and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Please contact Romero Funeral Home for Interment time at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith, Isaac, Dominic, Eric, Clarence, George and Anthony Gurule. Honorary pallbearers are Clovis Chavez Jr., Jason Gurule, Michael Perea, Michael Tafoya, Maury Herrera and Charlie Sanchez.
