Joyce Freynik Tratechaud, age 71, resident of Albuquerque, NM. Joy is proceeded in death by her parents Edward & Wilhelmina Freynik. She is survived by her husband Paul Tratechaud; her sister Barbara & Charles Hankins; nieces & nephews Charles, Edward, Jeffrey, & Barbara Jean & families; sister Frances & Joseph Elliott, nieces & nephews Kenneth, Kimberly, Kathryn, and families.

Joy was born in Riverside, NJ where she loved the ocean so much that she would ditch class to go to Long Beach Island & return to class full of sand. She received a Bachelor of Science at Glassboro State College, NJ & backpacked across Europe during summer breaks. Joy taught Earth Sciences at Burlington Township High School. She moved to New Mexico where she taught Biology in Crownpoint, NM, Navajo, NM & then Laguna Acoma High School. She was proud to receive additional training at Los Alamos Labs & practice Water Quality Mgt with her students.

Joy loved the Southwest where she traveled extensively reading Tony Hillerman Novels & collecting Indian artifact. She was proud to have been an accomplished ballet dancer in her youth. As an adult, she continued to dance, ballroom and country western ski-downhill and water, bicycle, snorkel, scuba dive, and travel all over the county and world. During retirement Joy danced with the Sandia Mountain Cloggers, hooked rugs, did needlepoint, and traveled extensively with her husband, including to their cabin in Taos where she loved to ride her bike and collect wild flowers.

Services will be at St Marks Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond, Pl. NE, Sun., Oct 1, 2pm. A reception will follow. All friends, family, and former students are welcome. In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made to , 9500 Montgomery NE, ABQ, NM 87111.
