On the morning of Thursday, January 14th, 2016 June J. Leach passed away in her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico surrounded by close family to be with the Lord, the happy hunting grounds. June was 74 years old. June was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 8, 1941. She was a Mohawk and Tuscarora Native American. She was the third eldest child born to Elias Patterson and Geraldine Ninham-Patterson. Her siblings included brothers Lee Patterson, Carl Patterson, and sister Adrienne Monture.

June is survived by her brothers Allan, Bruce and Randy Patterson of Ontario Canada and sisters Peggy Ninham of Buffalo, New York and Janice Patterson of Ontario Canada. June was the beloved wife of Bob G. Leach, whom she married on June 18, 1977, and was by her side at the time of her passing. She is survived by her two sons, Randy and Jeffrey Crews and three daughters Tonya Crews, Carla Crews and Justina Leach. June was the grandmother of seven grandchildren: Levi, David, Kayla and Phillip McIntyre, Bobby, Jordan and Samuel Crews as well as four great grandchildren.

June will be remembered for her incredible personal strength, integrity and her devotion to the Native American community. June grew up in Six Nations-Canada and held dual citizenship in Canada and the United States. June was known to welcome people of all walks of life into her home with kindness and inclusion. She has resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1978 with her husband Bob Leach where she stayed to raise her children. June deeply loved her family and enjoyed reading, traveling and was known for her love of Mother Nature and animals. During her time in New Mexico, June worked at the Albuquerque Indian School as a teacher, served on the Board of the Albuquerque Indian Center, and was a founding member of Cherokees of New Mexico. She will be missed by those whom she has touched in her life.

A memorial service to honor her life is scheduled to take place at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center at 2401 12th Street NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87104 on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 1pm with a reception to follow after service. Cremation service has taken place upon her wishes.
