Larkin, Katie

Katie Larkin, age 60, died peacefully on February 9th, in the compassionate care of the Gentiva Hospice staff, Lovelace Medical Center Downtown, in Albuquerque following a long illness.

A native New Mexican, Katie lived most of her adult life, and died, within sight of the Sandia Mountains, which she loved. She loved the outdoors and was an avid hiker and camper. Katie earned a BA at age 19 from Syracuse University and a MA from the University of New Mexico. A life-long radical supporter of the disadvantaged, she taught high school at one time and worked for several years at the University of New Mexico. But she always said her greatest accomplishment was raising her two beloved children. One of Katie's friends described her as a "force of nature."

Katie is survived by her parents Alice Larkin (Florida) and Brian Larkin (Virginia); brothers Daniel and Shannon (New York) and Ruane (Florida), children Sara (New York) and Stephen (Wyoming), and three grandchildren, Rhiannon and Ryley (New York) and Rebecca (Wyoming).

A service celebrating her life is planned for March 25, 2017, 3 p.m., at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 211 Jefferson St. NE, Albuquerque. Friends are welcome.

Donations in her name may be made to Gentiva Hospice.
