Kitty Parkin, 69, died February 9, 2016. Born in Mt. Airy, NC, on December 18, 1946. Daughter of Hugo and Caroline (Deschamps) Shupe. Kitty spent her childhood years in Ypsilanti, Michigan where she graduated from Roosevelt HS and Eastern Michigan University earning a BA in Journalism. She lived in Memphis, TN from 1971 to 1997 and served as the Associate Editor of the Metro Hampton Roads Magazine. In 1976, Kitty authored, "Memphis: A Pictorial History." She graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1980 with a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology.

She moved to Albuquerque in 1997, after securing a position as a School Psychologist with Albuquerque Public Schools. She remained in that position until her retirement in 2014. Known as a gracious host to her family and many friends Kitty was a longtime member of the Sitzmarkers Ski Club and enjoyed traveling, cooking, hiking, playing bridge and reading.

She is survived by her loving husband, Travis Parkin; her son Brian Plunkett, Memphis, TN; sister Lisa (Phill) Combs, Speedwell, TN; and a number of nieces, nephews, stepchildren, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kitty Parkin is predeceased by her parents and her sister, Lynn Horrocks.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Kitty's name to KUNM Public Radio or Heartland Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
