Leroy Joseph Mathews

Leroy Joseph Mathews, 86, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 surrounded by his family. Born April 29, 1931 in Richmond, Virginia to Leroy and Maude Mathews, he was a proud veteran of the US Air Force during the Korean War as a Medic. He was a member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 64 years, Juanita; daughter, Ginny Sunding and husband, Bud; son, Mike Mathews and wife, Debbie; son, Bill Mathews and wife, Yvette; son, Allen Mathews and wife, Michelle; son, Steve Mathews; and his grandchildren, Christine and Christian Mathews, Caitlin and Kyle Mathews, Lily and Joseph Tanner-Mathews. He is also survived by his sister, Rosemary Teefey of Fredericksburg, VA.

The family would like to thank the staff at the VA Hospital and Yvette Mathews for providing exemplary care, kindness and compassion during his final days.

A Rosary will be recited Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. with Mass to follow at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2532 Vermont St. NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87110. Interment of cremains to follow at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at 12:45. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the or .
