Lina Cordova Obituary
Lina Cordova

Lina Cordova relocated to heaven on Sunday, December 17, 2017. She was born in Pena Blanca, NM in 1921. Lina attended the local public school back when Catholic Nuns were able to teach in public schools. This is also where she met Alfredo Cordova, the new kid on the block and great love of her life, who recently moved from Albuquerque.

Lina and Alfredo became high school sweethearts and they married in May of 1940. They quickly relocated to Albuquerque where Alfredo found a restaurant job that paid 15 cents an hour. The end of the depression in New Mexico was marginal at best, and even low paying jobs were scarce. Lina gave birth to their first born, a baby girl named Naida in 1941, followed by Alfred Jr. the following year. In late 1942 Lina and Alfredo relocated again, this time to San Diego, CA, where Alfredo found employment at an aircraft assembly plant. In April 1944 Alfredo was drafted into the U.S. Army Lina settled down in Albuquerque with her two young children and lived with Alfredo's parents. There she became a most proficient homemaker, cook, and baker of biscochitos which she sent to her husband at one of those mysterious APO wartime addresses. They were shared by Alfredo's comrades-in-arms in France, Germany, and Austria. Upon his return from war, Lina and Alfredo began to rebuild their lives and raised their family. Shortly after his return they had a third child, Dorothy. Those three children were the greatest joy and triumph for your Lina and Alfredo. In June of 2004, Lina and Alfredo traveled to France at the invitation of the French Government to commemorate the 60th anniversary of D-Day.

Lina is survived by her loving husband and WWII combat veteran, Alfredo; daughter, Dorothy Cordova Barnhill; sister, Julia Richard; brother-in-law, Sammy Cordova and wife, Becky; grandchildren, Carl, Roberta, Ramona, Tony, Corrie, Nadine, and George. Lina was also blessed with many great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
