Lorraine Carroll Obituary
Carroll, Lorraine J.

Lorraine J. Carroll, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on June 1, 2017. She is now enjoying a glorious reunion with family and friends who have gone on before her. The heavens are brighter with her arrival.

Lorraine was born on July 9, 1935 in a small mountain cabin in Apex, Colorado. The family moved to Denver in 1936, to be closer to the medical doctors she needed. She attended and graduated from South High School. She began playing the piano when she was four years old and soon also began playing the accordion. She had her own band, Accordion Capers, that played at various locations in the Denver area. She had the great honor of playing for President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Lorraine met and married Jimmy Carroll in 1957. They were on their way to California but ran out of money and loved Albuquerque, so they decided to stay. They lived in the same house for 55 years.

In their later years, Jimmy and Lorraine would travel to Las Vegas, NV to go to the PBR Finals rodeos. She had front row season tickets for years to the NM State Fair rodeos as well. Lorraine loved being with and serving other people, and was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, North Valley Ward. She served in many callings and was the Relief Society President twice, and was organist, pianist and teacher for many years. She was a service missionary for LDS Family Services. Another highlight in her life was playing the organ weekly at the Albuquerque LDS Temple. She was a PTA President for many years when her children were young and was also a member of the Eastern Star. Lorraine also worked for many years as a receptionist for Partyline Florist and for Lovelace Medical.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lucille Schlage; her beloved husband, Jimmy Carroll; her cherished daughter, Janice Carroll; and her precious great- grandchildren, Isabella and Cayden Carroll.

Lorraine leaves behind her children, Jeannine and husband, Scot Thurgood, Jimmy Carroll, and Jeannette and husband, Tracy Carroll. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Cameron and wife, Kristin Carroll, Jamie and husband, Tyler Jeppesen, Clinton Carroll, Justin Thurgood, Candice and husband, Dustin Westby, Jimmy Carroll, Josh Thurgood, Chanler Carroll, and Amanda and husband, Garret Kadleck. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Taytum and Kannon Westby. Lorraine is survived by many other family members and friends.

Lorraine's family would like to thank all of the incredible caregivers who tenderly cared for her and loved her in the last few years. Her best friend and neighbor Vicky Olivas, her dedicated friend Vera Gutierrez, Cynthia Walton, Alsandra Gould and Agnes Paijebo were especially noteworthy in their wonderful service. We would like to offer a special thank you to Heritage Hospice who assisted with dedication, love and compassion. Becki from Heritage was an incredible nurse who made a last stop each week because Lorraine loved to visit with her. Jamie the Heritage chaplain brought the Spirit of the Lord with her to each visit. Bath aides Jessica and Yuri and social workers Jessica and Leslie were very helpful. Many others visited from time to time, which brought timely comfort to her and the family.

We will miss Lorraine greatly, but have confidence that her legacy will be carried on by those she associated with.
