Louisa Martinez Benton Obituary
Benton, Louisa Martinez

Louisa Martinez Benton, age 82, passed away in Albuquerque on Saturday, February 20, 2016 after several years of declining health. She was born on June 9, 1933, to Jose Guadalupe Martinez and Luisa Romero Martinez, of Guachupangue, New Mexico.

In 1950, Louisa married Margarito Merced "Mercy" Baca, from Santa Fe. They had five children together. In 1967, she married Clifford Dean "Kip" Benton, Jr., to whom she was married until his death in 2010. Louisa was a long-time employee of the Los Alamos Laboratory. She and Kip, who was a board member of Zia Credit Union, often traveled together on Credit Union business as well a traveling with family and friends.

Louisa was a devoted mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She found room in her heart for everyone she knew. And she seemed to know everyone in New Mexico. She was light-hearted, fun-loving and generous. She loved music and telenovelas. No one was ever turned away from her door. She was never one to judge another's circumstances or choices. She gave loving support to any of her family or friends who needed it. Many have recalled the kindness that she showed to them. She was Grandma Nanny to many people besides her grandchildren.

Louisa is survived by three siblings, Rosario Fiorillo, Gloria Maestas and Manuel Martinez; and three children, Steve Baca (Menlo Park, California), Dorothy Baca (Albuquerque, New Mexico) and Maria Dolores Baca (Albuquerque, New Mexico). Two sons preceded her in death, David Baca and Walter L. Baca. Ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive her.
